Business starts in 1946... After serving in the Navy
during World War II, Raymond G. Sands started his glass business with a
partner in a converted gas station in the city of Rochester.
1954: Ray and his family lived at 3320 Chili Avenue where he
continued to operate his mobile glass business and do some work out of
the garage of his house.
1961: Ray builds a small shop onto his house and continues to build
his family owned and operated business.
1983: Ray and his wife suffer health problems and decide to sell
the business to Frank and David Burns, a local Rochester family. Ray
stayed with the Burns' teaching them the business and helping to run the
day to day activity for about one year.
1989: The old shop is replaced with a new 2500 square foot facility
to house the growing business.
1993: The original house is removed and a 1700 sq ft office is
built to accommodate the sales and office staff.
1994:
An additional 1500 sq ft of warehouse space is added.
1997: Frank and Dave Burns purchase the property across the street.
2000: Ray Sands Glass opens its second retail service center
located at 2460 Rochester Street in Canandaigua, NY.
2002 through 2007: Ray Sands Glass is awarded Democrat and Chronicles Rochester's People's Choice Award six years in a row.
2004: Ray Sands Glass joins AGRSS a nationwide auto glass safety standards council.
2006: Ray Sands Glass offers new services: Just As It Was-mobile body shop on wheels, Britelite Headlite Restoration, Clearscent Scent Removal, Auto Window Tinting,
2007: Ray Sands auto glass technicians, customer service and sales representatives become certified in OE Tech Urethane - the only OEM approved one hour cure urethane for windshield replacement.
